Artificial Intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday life, and its influence on education is growing. This inset day marks the beginning of Kernow Learning’s AI journey - a shared opportunity to build understanding, ask questions, and explore what AI could mean for our schools, our staff, and our pupils.
We are at an early stage. Our inset is not about having all the answers, but about developing a common foundation: understanding what AI is, how it is already shaping education, and how we can approach it thoughtfully and responsibly. With an expert speaker guiding us, from Good Future Foundation, we will explore both the potential benefits of AI in supporting teaching and learning, and the challenges and risks that must be carefully managed.
Our day will also include a chance to join others in year groups for a writing moderation exercise. Our moderation approach has been really successful and strengthened consistency and confidence in writing judgements across our Trust. The purpose of this work is to continue to ensure pupils are on track to meet expected writing standards by the end of the year, while also identifying gaps that can directly inform teaching and curriculum planning.
During the moderation process, SENDCOs and Headteachers will meet to reflect on how behaviour is understood and supported across our schools, particularly where behaviour may be linked to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
In advance of this day teachers must select a year group to join for the writing moderation and choose from one of three AI workshops.
Phase 1: Just starting to think about how AI might be helpful for life, learning and work
This foundational workshop cuts through the hype and confusion surrounding Artificial Intelligence. We'll explore what AI is (and isn't) in simple terms, see how it's already a part of our daily lives, and take our first steps in using AI tools in a safe, guided environment. This session is designed for all staff, with no technical background required.
Phase 2: Confident in at least one AI tool and keen to see what more I can do
Already experimenting with AI? This session moves beyond the basics and guides you on how to use AI effectively and ethically in a school environment to save time on administrative tasks and enhance the overall productivity. Explore how to embed AI into your professional practice with purpose, caution and confidence. Perfect for staff ready to go from occasional use to intentional practice.
Phase 3: Using multiple AI tools for different tasks and eager to experiment more
There is a rich ecosystem of AI tools beyond text generation. This workshop will help you develop a framework for choosing the best tool to achieve any professional objective. You will learn how to automate workflows.
